So that’s what I’m going to share with you today: how do we wage the war against time. Let’s look at intrinsic aging. Intrinsic aging is simply the ticking of the clock. It’s time. It is immutable law of the universe that matter deteriorates. So from the minute we are born to the minute we die, we are in a constant state of deterioration. Now I know that doesn’t sound very exciting, but that’s what’s going on. The interesting statistic there is that only 10% of the aging that we see is a by-product of the ticking of the clock.

So when you look at the 10%, what’s happening? Well, collagen and elastin production – that’s what gives our skin that flex, that firm look and appearance, collagen and elastin production slows down 65% between the ages of 20 and 80. Skin thins 6% every 10 years. So what that means is that its ability to hold water diminishes and that’s where you lose that supple appearance. It gets thin, it can’t retain and hold moisture, nor can it help retain and hold the moisture that it creates naturally. So it looks dry, dull and very, very mature.

Let’s talk about actinic aging – that 90%. That 90% that we can impact. It is a by-product of being exposed to the environment. In the environment, we have exposure to free radicals – free radicals which are unstable oxygen molecules are what break down skin cells – break down internal cells. So you want to take this comprehensive approach to a new level with anti-oxidants.
